The club's constitution mandates that all Board of Directors members must be elected. Article 2 outlines the election process as follows:
ANNUAL ELECTION:
All officers and Board members are to be elected annually, assuming office on July 1st for a one-year term or until their successors are elected and qualified. The secretary must report the newly elected officers to the International Office within 15 days of the election.
AGM Minutes and Reported Statements
During the Annual General Meeting (AGM), Secretary April Yih stated that the club constitution requires only an election meeting to elect new office bearers.
In May 2024, Katyrn Haw announced at a dinner gathering that she would serve as president for the 2024/2025 term. This raised concerns for Past President (PP) Chin Chee Thau, who was aware that no election had taken place.
Inquiry at the Registry of Societies (ROS)
In early July 2024, PP Chin inquired at the ROS counter about the president of the Lions Club of Kota Kinabalu Centennial. After confirming PP Chin’s membership, the officer verified that Katyrn Haw was listed as president. When PP Chin asked for the name of the online document used to update this information in the ROS register, the officer directed him to ask the club secretary.
This response deepened PP Chin’s curiosity, as he only sought the document’s name. He then asked the secretary, April Yih, for the same information but received no response. Shortly afterward, PP Chin was notified of his expulsion from the club, with one cited reason being harassment of the secretary.
Explanation of Forms
There are two forms for updating club officer information online:
Annual Return Form: Used after the AGM, which occurred on August 27, 2024.
Club Officers (AJK) Form: Typically used when officers are replaced due to resignation or death.
Key Questions
Can the AJK form be used to update officer information following an election?
If an election occurred, when and where was it held, and how many members attended?
In September 2024, these questions were posed to Annie Ho, but no response was received.
Next Steps
Further investigation into these matters is ongoing, and updates will be provided.
