Bashing vs being critical

Some people bash others to gain happiness at the expense of others.

Being a "Critic" is an analysis of positive, negative, strength and weakness.

My blog on education is a good example of criticizing the educators who write without knowing why kids cannot read. LINK

"Bashing" arises out of deep seated insecurity leading to intense aversion or hostility towards someone or something. It is a Psychological strong negative emotional response with a desire to harm, pull down, or devalue others. Social media has given an opportunity for "Open Bashing".

Unfortunately, what we say is not heard in the same spirit and manner.

People evolve when they can concentrate on the core point, accept it as is, then internally evaluate it with the least biases and agree or disagree. Unfortunately, most of us don't listen to understand but hear to answer. This is clearly the case with the comments on Facebook by District B2 copied below.

Bashing has become a norm, because our level of Stupidity has risen.

This post is in response to comments on Facebook yesterday.

Briefly, I met the then District Governor Eve Wong in Kota Kinabalu and handed over my dispute resolution complaint letter and reports of the misappropriation of funds by the Lions Club of Kota Kinabalu Host. This was in the presence of President Chong Tshen Vui who fetched Eve Wong from the airport. Together with my report I handed her RM350 which was the equivalent amount of USD 50 required for a complaint filed under the Club Dispute Resolution procedure.

Eve Wong said she will collect the amount when she returns after meeting John Ho and Thomas Ho. She neither came back to meet me nor said anything about the meeting that was to be held among us.

Much later I came to know that she did not meet as promised because John Ho had instructed her not to get involved in this matter.

Why is this matter surfacing now? It is because I just found out that Eve Wong is one of the team members of ‘The Global Action Team (GAT)’. The GAT is a vast network of dedicated Lions of all levels who are focused on helping districts achieve their goals.

Alan Thoo is the current DG of Lions Club International District B2. I saw a photo of him together with Eve Wong on Facebook and decided to comment on the post.

Here is my comment and the response from District B2.

It was PDG Eve Wong who was the indirect cause of the Lions Club of Kota Kinabalu Host to be deregistered. She was the PDG to whom I complained about the club misappropriating funds by using secret bank accounts. She listened to the culprit John Ho and refused to have a meeting. The end result was the deregistration of the club. Alan Thoo, you had said not long ago that you have nothing to do with District 308 A2. Now you are standing beside the person who was the PDG when I wrote for help. LCI asked her to take action but she did not.

Lions Clubs International District 308 B2

Luqman Michel Hi there. We believe our comment from our DG was taken out of context. He must have cited that B2 and A2 are different administration. As a Lion, you should know this. However, PDG Eve Wong is GAT Area Leader for MD308 & D309, and the induction officer. And she gave away the GAT Honors cert from LCI.

This has nothing to do with whether she replies you etc when she was DG. That… you may want to take it up with her

Maybe they have indeed looked into it. And then decided to take action. Maybe not taking action is an action? I stand to be corrected. Either way, our DG standing next to someone who you claimed did not help you. So what is the issue? She is the GAT AL.

Luqman Michel

Lions Clubs International District 308 B2 Thank you for your comment "I have heard this statement - not taking action is an action'. Many blindly quote it and it has now become a standard. This is a repeat of the 2017 saga. Don't take action and everything will be fine. I have the whole thing on my blog and can't go around explaining everything to everyone who asks me. That is why I started the blog. The issue is how come a DG who had no integrity to investigate a complaint become a GAT AL? How do the Lions select such people? You got it wrong in thinking this is an issue with helping me. No! This 'not taking action is an action' nonsense is what got the club deregistered. A DG who 'helped' a club get deregistered is a GAT AL? What kind of nonsense is this?

Note:

The same problem was encountered at the meeting at the Golf and Country Club conducted by a special committee headed by PP Norman Lie. At the end of the meeting I offered my hand to the president Thomas Ho and said to let the past be. He refused to shake hands and said that he has to consult John Ho before making a decision. What kind of leaders are we grooming?

Let me make this clear, I have nothing personal against Eve Wong. She is a very nice lady. But to be a leader one should be resolute.

What about Alan Thoo? Did he have a meeting with his group of leaders and explain to them how to resolve disputes among members? He should take a short break from his extended tours around his clubs and give a talk to his future leaders to discuss matters amicably. He should learn from others mistakes...
