Lackadaisical attitude of the Lions Club’s District Governor Lydia Lu Siew Fong (Lydia SF Lu)

I wrote to the DG for year 2021 – 2022, Lydia SF Lu, on 8.7.2021 and have yet to receive a response from her.

From what I have seen since 2017 all District Governors are only interested in going about collecting donations and grants and doing some charity work.

They are not concerned with finding out why long standing members resign from clubs.

They are not concerned with misappropriation of funds by clubs having secret bank accounts.

They are not concerned with clubs in their district violating the Societies Act.

So, what is the function of these DG’s?

Why do they spend a lot of money lobbying for the post of DG?

Meanwhile, Lions Club International has collected subscriptions from an unlawful club despite knowing that Lions Club of Kota Kinabalu Host was de-registered for the whole of 2018-2019.

I am now forwarding the email I had written to DG Lydia to ROS and LCI with the hope that John Ho, Thomas Ho Thau Phin and Joseph Chai will be expelled from the Lions Movement for conduct unbecoming of a Lion by breaching the Societies Act.

I hope DG Lydia and her cabinet members will investigate the Lions Club of Kota Kinabalu Host and be prepared for queries from ROS.

Here is my email to Lydia SF written one month ago.

Hello, DG Lydia.

The LCKKHost should have been dealt with by the former DG’s starting with DG Eve Wong. Unfortunately, decision-making by DGs’ is not what it should be as each DG appears to want to just clear the year without any hassle.

I do hope you will discuss this matter with other Past District Governors and take decisive action. What is currently happening is like the Malay proverb ‘Seekor kerbau membawa lumpur semua nya terpalit’.

It has now been proven that there were 3 secret bank accounts operated by LCKKHost. Has any of the district dignitaries asked for an audit of the 3 accounts? I hope you won’t give me the standard answer about clubs being autonomous.

The office lot owned by LCKKHost was purchased with excess project funds. This fact was informed by PP Jessie Chong. In addition, this is obvious from the ROS records which shows the book value, of the lot purchased in 1999 at a cost of RM140,000, as Rm100. I have the ROS record with me if you care to look at it. It was never in the ROS records prior to my complaint.

The question asked by PDG John Ho in 1997 to the then DG Eve Wong was for me to prove that there were 3 bank accounts and this has now been proven.

Here is something from the email written to DG Eve Wong

LM also has the audacity to endlessly accuse KK Host of misappropriation of funds and steal from funds meant for the needy. Isn’t it the onus on him to prove all these very serious allegations and not for us to prove our innocence?

Now, I am reporting to you that LCKKHost has flouted the Societies Act by paying subscription during the year it was de-registered. Money was subsequently collected by demanding it from members in the subsequent year. I have the minutes of the club but I am sure you can demand it from the secretary of the club. Many members paid reluctantly as they wanted to be members in good standing. Some resigned soon after paying the club dues.

Some long-standing members who were past presidents left the Lion movement due to this act.

You may read my post at  https://myclubexperiences.blogspot.com/2021/01/lion-club-district-308a2s-disregard-to.html

Please discuss this with your cabinet and respond. I shall publish this email and your response on my blog and social media so that others will be informed.

I wish you the best during your year as DG.

Regards,

Luqman Michel
