Yesterday, on January 18, 2025, I was invited to attend a lunch meeting at EWest Restaurant to discuss the issues I had previously raised with the Registrar of Societies (ROS).
This was the first time I had met PDG (Past District Governor) Lawrence Ting since our last encounter in 2015 or 2016, when he was the District Governor (DG). The meeting was also attended by Datuk Margareth Lim, Horace Ho Toh Chee, and Past President Chin Chee Thau.
The
objective of the meeting was for us to discuss the issue at hand and to explain to PDG Lawrence Ting the graveness of the issue.
During the meeting, we explained the following issues to PDG Lawrence Ting:
i. The members of the Lions District are the individual clubs, and as such, matters concerning the clubs are a district-level concern. The current District Governor, Annie Ho, is therefore obligated to provide information related to this matter.
ii. The Board of Directors and office bearers have not been duly appointed. Only now did PDG Lawrence fully understand the gravity of the situation.
iii. The DG had installed the office bearers during the installation ceremony, despite warnings from some members that the individuals sworn in would be breaking federal laws. The board members were cautioned that their installation would be in violation of ROS and Ministry of Home Affairs regulations.
iv. None of us are aware of the document used to enter the office bearers for the 2024/2025 term into the ROS system. Falsifying information in the ROS registry is a serious offense.
PDG Lawrence then agreed to follow up with DG Annie Ho to contact the club in question. A committee may be formed to investigate the issues further.
We anticipate a swift response and action from PDG Lawrence Ting and the DG to resolve this matter.
