I am writing to raise a concerning issue regarding the recent actions taken by the current Board of Directors (BOD) of the Centennial Lions Club of Kota Kinabalu.
It has come to my attention that Mr. Chin Chee Thau, a Past President and a member of the Centennial Lions Club, has been given a notice of expulsion. One of the justifications for this expulsion is that his request to the secretary for a copy of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) submission to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) is considered harassment.
The troubling aspect of this situation is that there was no election meeting held for the office bearers and the BOD for the financial year 2024/2025. Despite this, the not duly elected BOD has issued this letter of expulsion to Mr. Chin.
Furthermore, Mr. Chin made attempts to obtain the information about the form submitted to the ROS to register the office bearers, but his requests to the secretary were met with refusal to respond to his messages and telephone calls. When he then approached the ROS directly in July and September, he was simply told to obtain the information from the secretary.
This raises serious questions about the transparency and accountability of the ROS and the Club in this matter. It is concerning that a club member is being denied access to information that should be available to members.
I implore you to look into this issue immediately, as the expulsion of a member from the club can be both damaging and embarrassing. We must ensure that Lions club's operations are conducted in a fair, transparent, and lawful manner.
I hope you will resolve this matter and uphold the integrity of the Lions Club.
