Societies Act and clubs

One of the few things that I had asked the ROS is the reason for my expulsion from the club. The ROS is obliged to seek a reasonable explanation from the club failing which I would be reinstated as a member.

Norman Lie Chin Man's 10 page report presented to the Board of Directors clearly shows that there is no acceptable reason for me to be expelled. You may read the 10 page report by clicking here:

In that event, if and when I am reinstated as a member, the first thing I would do is to ask the club for the clubs accounts for inspection.

I am surprised that not a single member asked the club for the accounts and bank statements for examination. It is possible that they did not do it because they do not really know how to do an audit.

But, that will be the first thing I will do.

Note:Past President Joseph Chai who is responsible for opening the bank accounts had stated in the BOD's meeting that the club indeed did have 5 bank accounts and a Fixed Deposit account. This important matter was not recorded in the minutes.

The Societies Act says the following:

16) Dispute resolution (1) if the registrar is of the opinion that a dispute has occurred among the members….. the society should within one month of the service of such a notice produce to him evidence of the settlement of any such dispute…

16 (2) if any such notice as is provided in subsection (1) is not complied with to the satisfaction of the registrar……the registrar may take steps to cancel the registration of the society under section 13.

30) Inspection of books by the members
A member……… may inspect the books of the society at all reasonable hours at the registered office of the society or at any place where the books are kept.
Once I get the evidence.... there will be another twist to the story...
