Special meeting to dismiss Luqman Michel

Requisition for a Special meeting for taking action on a member- Luqman Michel

Here is an extract of the requisition for the Special meeting to be held on the 3rd of January, 2017:

A)“Luqman Michel has willfully created unsubstantiated and false reports against innocent members publicly, in particular, accusing President and Secretary of manipulating, altering and falsifying the minutes of the Board/Regular Meeting at which he was absent and therefore he could not possibly have any basis or knowledge to question the accuracy of the minutes without any amendments.

B) “His FB friends have made reference to our Club as ‘filth’ and claimed we are associated with ‘illuminati’. He has made many derogatory remarks on our club officers.”

Note: The meaning of illuminati from the dictionary is: ‘people claiming to possess special enlightenment or knowledge of something.’

I, Luqman Michel strongly oppose the above excuses (A) and (B) as a basis for my expulsion from the club because:

1.       My expulsion would mean that the President and Secretary can continue altering the minutes of meetings to suit their interests. And this is dangerous. The minutes of meetings will no longer be an accurate record of the proceedings of meetings.

2.       My expulsion would mean that the President and Secretary would have happily gotten rid of someone who has the gumption to speak the truth in spite of all odds.

3.       My expulsion would mean that the President and Secretary would have happily gotten rid

of someone who is bold enough to disrupt the club’s status quo for the sake of putting right what is wrong.    

Are the excuses as in ‘A’ and ‘B’ above good enough to take action against me?

IPP Carol Lo Phit Hah had written an email to all members saying that the words “bad words” were not uttered at the meeting. Since a doubt had been created on the recording of the minutes I would have thought the minutes of the previous meeting should have been discussed in detail before being adopted. A few other members who were present at the meeting have confirmed that the words “Bad words” were not uttered at the meeting.

Our Secretary, Francis Liew Shin Pin, had written an email saying that the words in the minutes were not his. They were altered by Thomas Ho Thau Phin who is our current President.

 “He has made many derogatory remarks on our club officers”. 

Is the above not a sweeping statement? Should the members not be specifically told what the derogatory remarks are?

If I had pilfered money from an account that has not been sent for audit or if I had used money meant for a project to buy an asset which is not disclosed in the accounts then there is cause for dismissal. I cannot and should not be dismissed for telling the truth.  

I refuse to attend the forthcoming special meeting to be held on the 3.1.2017. I believe that it is an offence to dismiss a member of good standing because of frivolous reasons. As such I shall wait and see the members who will cast the votes to get rid of me. I hope to get a list of such members from the secretary as Notes on the meeting No 3 says “Voting is by rising and only members in good standing (with no dues in arrear) are allowed to vote.”

I object to the meeting being conducted without the following questions being answered:

1.       How was the Clubhouse financed?

2.       Under whose name is it registered? (Our 50^th Anniversary magazine says it was purchased during the year of the presidency of Datuk Ng Lai Su when most of the Past Presidents banded together to fund the purchase of the clubhouse. KK Host is the only club in District 308 A2 to have its own clubhouse.)

3.       How was the name registered under Kota Kinabalu Host (if that is true) when that name was only approved on 23.11.2016?

4.       What about rental income received by the club from those who rent the club?

5.       Are there yearly reports sent to members?

6.       Are there any other bank accounts in the name of Lions Club of Kota Kinabalu besides the Administrative account and 1 Project account that have always been audited?

This email is sent to all members of Lions Club of Kota Kinabalu Host and I object to any member voting on my dismissal without getting answers to questions 1 to 6 above.
